Welcome to District Records
Our Local Heritage . . .
D.C. in the 70s and 80s was a Punk Rock haven, home to one of the largest Straight Edge enclaves anywhere and the birthplace of a unique style of music, Go Go. While politics makes D.C. a town of transients, one thing that always remains is the amazing diversity of the music that this wonderful city has to offer. Our goal is to nurture and help musicians, adding their unique contributions to the musical tradition of Washington, and the surrounding area... D.C., District Records and the Logo
The District Records logo, originally designed by New York artist Nick Dyball, is based on the D.C. flag. District Records founder Dave Ridgeway, Nick and the rest of us decided that using the D.C. flag as part of the logo was only fitting and would show the pride the label had for its hometown. Interestingly enough the capital city had no flag for the majority of its existence. It wasn't until 1920 that a commission was formed, consisting of Melvin C. Hazen, Captain A.D. Hopping, Lt. J.W. Murphy Jr., G.M. Thornett, and A.E. DuBois, to choose a design for the flag of the District of Columbia. The final design of the District's flag by Charles A.R. Dunn is based on the family coat of arms of President George Washington and was adopted in October of 1938. |
